WRIGHT TARGETS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AT SEBRING DOUBLEHEADER

For the first time since 2009, SRO America will return to Sebring International Raceway this weekend for the penultimate rounds of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America. Wright Motorsports leads the Pro/Am team championship by 20 points, and after a podium finish at Watkins Glen International last month, drivers Jan Heylen and Fred Poordad are expected to be strong contenders to return to Victory Circle in this weekend’s 90-minute doubleheaders. The duo currently leads in the driver point standings by 58 points and could win their respective championship this weekend. 

ADAC GT MASTERS TITLE CONTENDER RAFFAELE MARCIELLO: THE ANTI-SUPERSTAR

 He had one foot in Formula 1, was part of the Ferrari Driver Academy and raced against Carlos Sainz jr. and Danil Kvyat on the karting scene: Raffaele Marciello (26/I, Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP/WWR) has every reason to puff his chest out proudly as he strolls through the paddock. However, the Italian, who is battling for the title in the German GT Championship, is an unassuming character: “I am not a star, but just a normal person doing his job.” The Mercedes-AMG works driver will have another opportunity to ‘do his job’ this weened (1st to 3rd October), when he lines up alongside Maximilian Buhk (28/Hamburg) in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo at the Sachsenring.

THE TITLE RACE RESUMES IN THE GERMAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP

The suspense is rising: The title race in the German GT Championship travels to the Sachsenring this weekend (1st to 3rd October) for the sixth of this season’s eight events, and the contenders for the championship can afford no signs of weakness at the challenging and undulating circuit. Just three points separate championship leaders Ricardo Feller (21/CH) and Christopher Mies (31/Düsseldorf, both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) in the Audi from their closest rivals, Mercedes-AMG works drivers Raffaele Marciello (26/I) and Maximilian Buhk (28/Hamburg, both Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP/WWR). As well as being able to follow the action from the grandstands at the Sachsenring, fans will again be allowed in the paddock, where they will be in the thick of the action.

PORSCHE CARRERA CUP DEUTSCHLAND WIN FOR LARRY TEN VOORDE AT MONZA

Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite) has taken an important step on his mission to defend his Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland title. The Dutchman won race twelve on Sunday at Italy’s Autodromo Nazionale Monza ahead of Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven (Turkey/Phoenix Racing) and Bastian Buus (Denmark/Allied-Racing). “The wet track surface dried up lap after lap, so the conditions were special. Ayhancan Güven and I had an intense duel, which was great fun. Ultimately, I pipped him at the post,” said ten Voorde. Thanks to his victory as part of the International GT Open support programme, the defending champion managed to extend his lead in Carrera Cup standings and now lies 28 points ahead of Saturday’s winner Güven in the overall rankings.

PORSCHE CARRERA CUP GB CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT TIGHTENS AS KING AND CAMMISH WIN AT SILVERSTONE

rsche Carrera Cup GB – the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK – traveled to Silverstone at a crucial point in the championship fight. Dan Cammish (Redline Racing) arrived as the third championship leader of the season following the Croft weekend, but his eight point advantage over Lorcan Hanafin (JTR) would be reduced significantly by Sunday afternoon. 

PFAFF LONG BEACH SECOND-PLACE MOVES “PLAID PORSCHE” INTO IMSA GTD POINTS LEAD

Pfaff Motorsports moved the No. 9 “Plaid Porsche” to the top of the GTD class championship point standings following a hard-fought second-place finish at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Saturday, September 25. The 100-minute race – the shortest of the season for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – on the temporary race course through the streets of Long Beach, California also saw the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R continue its podium streak finishing in third-place. In the GTLM class, the Proton Competition-managed WeatherTech Racing No. 79 Porsche 911 RSR-19 also brought home a third-place result.
