SMALLEY SHARES PORSCHE CARRERA CUP GB SEASON OPENING SPOILS WITH DE HAAN

Porsche Carrera Cup GB – the fastest single-marque GT racing championship in the UK – got its 21st season underway at Donington Park, the shorter 1.98-mile National circuit hosting two races on Sunday 23 April. In the year’s first race, 16-year-old newcomer Robert de Haan (Richardson Racing) became the youngest overall race winner in championship history. Porsche Carrera Cup GB 2022 / 2023 Junior Adam Smalley (Duckhams Yuasa Racing with Team Parker) drove to the second win of his Porsche racing career in round two.

GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE ONE-TWO FOR ROWE RACING AT MONZA

ROWE Racing made a dream start to the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS season with a one-two finish for the BMW squad launching the new campaign at Monza. The #98 machine of Philipp Eng, Marco Wittmann and Nick Yelloly started the opening Endurance Cup race from pole and was never under serious pressure for the win. For much of the three-hour run it was perused by fellow BMW squad Team WRT, only for both of the Belgian squad’s cars to hit problems before the chequered flag.

WYLIE CLAIMS PORSCHE CARRERA CUP GB PRO-AM PODIUM AT DONINGTON

Ross Wylie, from Thornhill near Dumfries, got his Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign off to a flying start at Donington Park last weekend (22-23 Apr). Ross swept his Glenturret Porsche Carrera Cup car to third place in the Pro-Am category in the opening race and fourth in the second – denied a second podium by a mere 0.647secs.

GRASSER RACING SECURES PODIUM IN GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE SEASON OPENER

GRT celebrated a successful start to the 2023 season last weekend in Italy. For the Austrian Lamborghini team, the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup Powered by AWS was up at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on April 22 and 23. On the iconic circuit just outside Milan, 55 entries took to the first test of strength in the prestigious endurance series. For Grasser Racing, the race debut with the new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 proved a success with a podium in the Silver Cup.

More M Power than ever before: A record contingent of eight BMW M4 GT3s will take to the grid for this weekend’s opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS (GTWC) at Monza (ITA). Never before have so many of BMW M Motorsport’s top GT3 cars started a race together. In the battle for overall victory in race one of the Endurance Cup, BMW M Team WRT and ROWE Racing will each run two works-assisted BMW M4 GT3, driven by a total of twelve BMW M works drivers. Two Lamborghinis for a déjà vu the Italian way. A new chapter begins for the Grasser Racing Team from April 21 to 23. At the season opener of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, the squad from Austria will celebrate their race premiere with the new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. The third generation of the GT3 machine from Lamborghini Squadra Corse follows in the footsteps of its ancestors at a historic venue in Monza. GRT will start the new era with two cars on the legendary Grand Prix circuit next weekend. The number 58 entry will be driven by Ricky Capo, Sam Neary and Fabrizio Crestani. There is a driver change in the sister car. In the number 85, Kay van Berlo shares the cockpit with Clemens Schmid and Benjamin Hites.

PORSCHE PENSKE MOTORSPORT CLAIMS FIA WEC PODIUM AT PORTIMAO

Porsche Penske Motorsport has wrapped up round two of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve with a podium result. After six hours of racing, Laurens Vanthoor, Kévin Estre and André Lotterer crossed the finish line third with their Porsche 963. For the works team, this marks the second major success with the LMDh prototype within a few hours: In Long Beach, California, their team colleagues had won the 100-minute sprint race in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, with the sister Porsche 963 securing third place. In the GTE-Am class, a Porsche also clinched a podium result in Portugal. At the wheel of their Iron Dames’ 911 RSR, Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting fought hard for victory over long stretches and ultimately reached the flag in third place.

SECOND PLACE FINISH FOR FERRARI AT THE 6 HOURS OF PORTIMAO

The Ferrari 499P of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen finished second at the 6 Hours of Portimão, the first European round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The sixth place of the other Prancing Horse Hypercar, driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, rounded off the weekend. Ferrari said goodbye to Portugal after achieving the target of finishing with both cars entered in the top class.
