PORSCHE AIMS TO DEFEND ITS TITLE IN THE EIFEL WITH THE 911 GT3 R

Porsche and its customer teams will make a bid for overall victory with eight 911 GT3 R in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring this coming weekend. Manthey contests the tradition-steeped race as the defending champion. The Eifel marathon celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is regarded as one of the world’s toughest motorsport challenges. One 25.378-kilometre lap is a combination of the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit. Once again, Porsche racing cars make up the lion’s share of the grid: 46 vehicles from the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer will tackle the endurance classic at 4 pm (CEST) this coming Saturday. No other manufacturer is better represented in the 138-strong field.

NURBURGRING 24 HOURS DEBUT FOR THE NEW BMW M4 GT3

The anniversary week of BMW M GmbH is in full swing. The company was founded on 24th May 1972, and this week it celebrates its 50th birthday at the 50th staging of the Nürburgring 24 Hours (GER). The focus will be on the BMW M4 GT3, which is set for its race debut at the endurance classic, which BMW M Motorsport teams have won 20 times in the past. However, the support programme presented by BMW M is also quite something. The BMW M Race of Legends, the M Korso, and M Town are just some of the many highlights on offer to the fans, who will finally be back at the circuit in big numbers.

BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES FOR K-PAX RACING AT NOLA

Mother Nature may have teased its presence, but K-PAX Racing made its known Sunday during the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS event finale at NOLA Motorsports Park. The team’s two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs charged through sporadic sprinkling and the field, making it four podiums for the weekend – and a sweep of the third and fourth rounds of the 2022 championship.

GRT EXTENDS POINTS RUN IN THE DTM

Sunday’s DTM race at the Lausitzring brought GRT the next precious points haul in the fiercely contested championship. In the second race of the weekend, Lamborghini factory driver Mirko Bortolotti finished sixth in the field of 29 GT3 cars, as he had done the day before. For the Lamborghini team from St. Margarethen in Austria, this means the successful continuation of their points run in the DTM. In all four races so far, the squad has made it into the top-six with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO. In the drivers’ standings, Mirko Bortolotti is in second place after two of eight stops in the 2022 DTM season. GRT holds second place in the team standings as well.

TIM HEINEMANN WINS AGAIN IN THE DTM TROPHY AT THE LAUSITZRING

Two races, two wins: Toyota driver Tim Heinemann (GER) got his 2022 season in the talent pool DTM Trophy off to a perfect start at Lausitzring Turn 1 powered by Autohero. After 19 action-packed and partly dramatic laps, the driver of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Germany powered by Ring Racing team was first across the finish line. Together with Heinemann, the 2020 DTM Trophy champion, BMW drivers Theo Oeverhaus (GER, Walkenhorst Motorsport) and Colin Caresani (NLD, Project 1) also participated in the post-race prize-giving ceremony.

TWO DTM WINS FOR SHELDON VAN DER LINDE AT THE LAUSITZRING

25 kilograms of success ballast weren’t able to stop him either: after his success on Saturday, Schubert BMW driver Sheldon van der Linde also charged to DTM victory at Lausitzring Turn 1 powered by Autohero on Sunday as well. With the Schubert Motorsport BMW M4, the South African claimed pole position in the morning and scored 25 points with another commanding performance. Second place in the race on Sunday went to Maro Engel (GER) with the GruppeM Mercedes-AMG, who also secured the additional point for the Autohero Fastest Lap Award. Three-time DTM champion René Rast (GER) came third, scoring his first podium finish with the ABT Audi R8 since his return to DTM. Classified fourth, Philipp Eng (AUT) completed the good day for Schubert.

SHELDON VAN DER LINDE WITH ROCKET START TO LAUSITZRING DTM VICTORY

Firstly wide awake, then fully focussed and in commanding fashion at the end: Sheldon van der Linde has won the DTM race at DEKRA Lausitzring Turn 1 powered by Autohero. For the South African, racing for the Schubert Motorsport team, it was his second victory in DTM and the first for the new BMW M4 in the anniversary year of the Bavarian manufacturer, celebrating 50 years of BMW M in 2022. Luca Stolz (GER) came second with the HRT Mercedes-AMG from Lucas Auer (AUT) with the WINWARD Mercedes-AMG and Indian Arjun Maini with the second HRT Mercedes-AMG. Maro Engel (GER, GruppeM Mercedes-AMG) finished fifth.

SERIES NEWCOMERS KRUTTEN/GREEN CLAIM THEIR MAIDEN ADAC GT MASTERS VICTORY AT THE RED BULL RING

Thunderbolt at round two of the ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring: Series newcomers Niklas Krütten (19/Trier) and Ben Green (24/GB) produced a flawless performance to secure a sensational victory in Saturday’s race. This earned the youngsters their first success in the German GT Championship in only their third ace. It was also the maiden triumph for the new BMW M4 GT3 and win number 13 for the Schubert Motorsport team in the ADAC GT Masters. Second place went to the pairing of Christian Engelhart (35/Starnberg) and Ayhancan Güven (24/TR) in the #91 Porsche 911 GT3 R for the Joos Sportwagentechnik team. Jonathan Aberdein (24/ZA) and Raffaele Marciello (27/I) finished third for Mann-Filter Team Landgraf in the #48 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to claim the third spot on the podium. “To be honest, I cannot believe it. I tried to make as few mistakes as possible and was able to secure the win, despite the tyres starting to wear,” said Krütten after his maiden victory.

GRT MAXIMISE THEIR POTENTIAL IN SATURDAY’S DTM RACE AT THE LAUSITZRING

The second stop of the DTM 2022 presented GRT with a tremendous challenge this Saturday. At the Lausitzring, the Austrian Lamborghini team not only had to master the infamous Turn 1. For both crews and drivers of the four Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs, the assessment of the Italian GT3 machine within the regulations also provided an increased level of difficulty. However, the team did not let the tricky task upset them in the first race this weekend. Mirko Bortolotti made the most of sixth place in the field of 29 GT3 cars.
