ERIK JOHANSSON IS THE NEW BMW MOTORSPORT JUNIOR FOR 2019

After an intensive three-day selection procedure, the decision has been made: Erik Johansson (SWE) has been accepted onto the 2019 BMW Motorsport Junior Programme. The 22-year-old former BMW Customer Racing driver triumphed over three other candidates in Wednesday’s shoot-out in the BMW Motorsport simulator. As a reward, a substantial part of his training programme will see him contest the entire coming season of the Italian GT Championship at the wheel of the BMW Team Italia BMW M6 GT3. On Monday and Tuesday, 16 candidates underwent a comprehensive programme of physical, mental and communication tests. The top four participants then went through to the simulator shoot-out.

POSITIVE START TO MERCEDES-AMG PARTNERSHIP FOR CRAFT-BAMBOO RACING DESPITE RETIREMENT AT THE BATHURST 12 HOUR

Craft-Bamboo Racing began its new partnership with Mercedes-AMG by delivering a solid performance at the 2019 Bathurst 12 Hour. As a one-off collaboration, Craft-Bamboo Racing and Black Falcon joined forces to tackle this gruelling endurance race. Named Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Black Falcon, the two teams combined its efforts by integrating the team managers, engineers and mechanics to work in partnership, synergizing Black Falcons experience with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Craft-Bamboo Racing’s long standing experience at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

KCMG SCORE INTERCONTINENTAL GT CHALLENGE POINTS AFTER STRONG BATHURST 12 HOUR DEBUT

The two KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 cars showed race-winning potential during the team’s maiden Bathurst 12 Hour outing, setting the fastest lap and scoring valuable 2019 Intercontinental GT Challenge points after the #18 finished seventh at the Mount Panorama Circuit. A strong qualifying saw the #18 Nissan GT-R progress into the top-10 shootout and start from ninth on the grid. Oliver Jarvis immediately made up positions during the start under darkness, emerging in seventh by the time the sun rose at the end of the first hour.

SUCCESS FOR AUDI SPORT CUSTOMER TEAMS AT BATHURST

Audi Sport customer racing experienced a setback in the launch of its title defense in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. After both Audi R8 LMS of the Audi Sport Team Valvoline had at times led the 12-hour race in Bathurst in the early phase, the squad with drivers Christopher Haase/Christopher Mies/Markus Winkelhock ultimately had to settle for 14th place. The Australian customer teams Matt Stone Racing and Hallmarc, however, were delighted to climb the podium in their class.
