ANOTHER MILESTONE IN A REMARKABLE SUCCESS STORY: THE 200th ADAC GT MASTERS RACE

The ADAC GT Masters passes another milestone next weekend (16th – 18th October) when the Red Bull Ring in Austria hosts the 100th event and the 200th race on Sunday. The ‘Super Sports Car League’ was inaugurated in 2007 and is now considered to be one of the world’s leading GT series. The ADAC recognised the potential of the GT3 class as soon as it was introduced 14 years ago, and the ADAC GT Masters is now the longest-running series in the world based on this successful concept. SPORT1 will be showing both races from the Red Bull Ring, with live coverage on Saturday and Sunday commencing at 13:00 CEST.

AL HARTHY BACK ON TRACK WITH INTERNATIONAL GT OPEN DEBUT THIS WEEKEND AT SPA

Aston Martin Vantage GT3 racer Ahmad Al Harthy will make a very welcome return to competitive action this weekend, 17th/18th October, at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium with an unexpected debut in the International GT Open.

PORSCHE “WORKS” AND CUSTOMER TEAMS CHASE PETIT LE MANS SUCCESS

The Porsche GT Team is looking to turn its fortunes at the site of its greatest achievement: the Petit Le Mans. In 2015, the Porsche GT Team triumphed in what was presumed to be unattainable, bettering a field of the world’s best prototype and GT machines to win one of the most challenging motorsport events on the planet. In a relentless deluge that ended the race early, the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR crossed the finish line first to carve its name into the history books as a “giant killer”. The 10-hour classic, which will be celebrating it 23rd running on October 17, will see the two-car GTLM class factory effort return to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta looking to redeem a season of unrequited effort. In the customer-focused GTD class, Porsche privateer Wright Motorsports comes to the Braselton, Georgia-area on the opposite side of the pendulum having secured three consecutive podium finishes in recent IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races. The recognized patriarch of modern sports car racing, Porsche has a record-setting 24 class victories in the Petit Le Mans, including the unprecedented 2015 overall victory and three class victories in the one-make GTC category. Porsche has participated in every Petit Le Mans held since 1998.

GRT GRASSER RACING TEAM WILL SEEK REVENGE IN HOME ADAC GT MASTERS FIXTURE AT THE RED BULL RING

GRT Grasser Racing Team will be doubly motivated as they start the fifth ADAC GT Masters race weekend of 2020 later this week. Super Sports Car League Races 9 and 10 are set to take place practically outside the Lamborghini team’s front door in Knittelfeld very close to the Red Bull Ring in Styria. After being disappointed at the Sachsenring, the crews of the three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evos are all the more determined to clinch their first official win of the season in their home fixture.

BALZAN JOINS WEATHERTECH RACING FOR PETIT LE MANS

Alessandro Balzan (Italy) will join Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), and Jeff Westphal (San Mateo, Calif.) for the Motul Petit Le Mans to run at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, October 15-17. Balzan is a two-time IMSA WeatherTech GTD driver champion (2016, 2017), both with Scuderia Corsa. Balzan last raced with MacNeil and Westphal at the Rolex 24 Hour At Daytona in January.

SKY TEMPESTA RACING SECURE GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE SPRINT CUP TITLE IN BARCELONA

Eddie Cheever and Chris Froggatt of Sky Tempesta Racing became GT World Challenge Sprint Cup Drivers’ Champions this weekend in the Pro-Am category, having shown impressive resilience to win Race 2 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

TECH1 RACING AND LEXUS ON THE PODIUM AT THE FINAL GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE SPRINT RACE

The final GT World challenge Europe Sprint race took place on the Spanish soil with a triple race meeting in Barcelona for Aurelien Panis and Thomas Neubauer at the wheel of the Lexus RC F GT3 #15. The weekend was quite complicated for the team: an unfavorable track, a frustrating first race, a mechanical retirement in race 2. But it came to a happy end with a podium in the Silver Cup in the final race.

IRON LYNX TAKES LE MANS CUP TITLE

Iron Lynx’s 488 GT3 Evo 2020s claimed a double podium in the fifth and penultimate round of the Le Mans Cup at Monza, securing the team title in their debut season. A challenging race, especially in the early stages, with three entries of the Safety Car in the first half-hour, delivered the crown with a race to spare and paves the way for Rino Mastronardi to take the drivers’ championship.

BELGIAN AUDI CLUB TEAM WRT RECAPTURES SPRINT CUP TITLES AS VANTHOOR AND WEERTS SEAL DRIVERS CROWN

Belgian Audi Club Team WRT sealed a GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS championship double in today’s season-deciding Sprint Cup race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, reclaiming the teams’ title while Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts clinched the drivers’ crown.

COMPETITIVE WEEKEND FOR COOL RACING AT MONZA

Antonin Borga was met with challenging conditions at the start of the 4 Hours of Monza, as the track was still damp from overnight rain. Several cars struggled on the slippery asphalt, but the Swiss racer kept it clean and made up two positions from his fourth-place grid spot at the start. He ran two smooth stints, but was rear-ended by an LMP3 car into the first chicane which spun the car around. He handed the #37 Oreca 07 to his countryman Alex Coigny, who also drove well on the drying track.
