Briton has time added in the classification for impeding
Oliver Rowland was handed a 20 second time penalty by the race stewards following this morning’s Sprint Race in Silverstone after being judged to have impeded his rivals at the restart after a late safety car.
The safety car, which was brought out to allow the marshals to remove Ralph Boschung’s car after finding the wall on lap 17, returned to the pits with one lap remaining: race leader Nicholas Latifi got away well to lead Luca Ghiotto into turn 1, but a large gap formed back to P3 man Rowland, with the stewards judging that it was a deliberate action.
The 20 second penalty is in addition to a previous 5 second penalty Rowland acquired for forcing Artem Markelov off the track on lap 1, which had seen the Briton drop from 4th on track to 10th on the classifications. The additional penalty now sees Rowland finish the race in 17th position.
