- Team Pelfrey announces the signing of Jonathan Kotyk to its F1600 Championship Series Team for the 2017 season, marking Kotyk’s first car season.
Kotyk has spent the last six years in the US karting scene, competing in many of the national level events. Driving for two of the top karting teams in the country, he looks to carry his experience into his first season of F1600. Kotyk has been a front runner on the karting scene with multiple championship titles and race wins to his name. With an opportunity to make the step into open-wheel racing with Team Pelfrey, Kotyk is making the jump into F1600 in 2017.
“I feel honored to be a part of Team Pelfrey and to represent Gap Guard this season,” commented Kotyk. “With the knowledge and expertise Team Pelfrey brings to the track, it’s going to be a great environment for me to learn and grow. After completing two tests with the team this year, I have been impressed with the dedication put forth into the cars, providing a fast platform. The team has provided valuable information in helping me get up to speed quickly making the transition from karts to cars easy. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support and I am looking forward to a great year.”
Reestablished in 2011, Team Pelfrey has quickly become one of the most successful teams in junior open-wheel racing with 6 championship titles, 48 wins and 143 podiums. The team has high hopes of adding to that tally with the notable additions of Matthew Cowley and Jonathan Kotyk to its driver roster. The team operates in the F1600 Championship Series, USF2000 Championship, Pro Mazda Championship and Indy Lights.
