NEC FR 2.0 : Max Defourny sacré meilleur rookie
Max Defourny has completed a spectacular season since his debut at the beginning of 2015 in Formula Renault 2.0. The Belgian driver finished a brilliant 4th and the top rookie of the Northern European Cup series (NEC FR 2.0) with the ART Junior Team. Season after season, Max Defourny is climbing the ladder of motorsport with talent and efficiency, confirming that he is one of the major current hopefuls.
Max Defourny was not short of problems at the last race of the 2015 Northern European Cup at Hockenheim on 3rd-4th October. But he stayed focused on his goal: To win the title of best rookie and keep his 4th place in the Championship.
«In free practice, I suffered an oil leak and we could not properly carry out the testing programme. Then, in the first qualifying session, I experienced a problem with the steering column. The team was able to repair it, but the wheel was positioned wrong for the second session. Fortunately, I limited the damage by successively taking 5th and 7th places.»
Max refuses to give up Problems continued to strike Max in Race 1. A part broke in the clutch and his lap times were affected. He was forced to settle for 7th place overall and 4th of the rookies.
«The lead I held in the rookie ranking before Germany had suddenly melted!» On Sunday morning, the circuit was wet for Race 2. Quick as usual in these circumstances, he had to fight with a car that was difficult to drive. Although the track was tricky to drive, he gave his best to preserve the maximum of points at the finish. Mission accomplished with 9th position and the 4th rookie.
Efforts rewarded by the title In the afternoon, the racing lines had dried for Race 3. Max, who fully intended to finish his NEC season with a bang, made a great start. His pace allowedhim to widen the gap to the chasing pack.
«When I saw that I was 4th and the top rookie, I managed the pace at the end of the race.» The chequered flag confirmed this double result, much to his satisfaction.
«The Championship was very tough this season, with many second-year drivers. The top two in the final ranking are also the two current leaders of the Eurocup. In this context, the two wins and the pole position I obtained ahead of them have particular value. It’s a great performance in this formula which both reveals and forms talent. Many professional drivers made themselves noticed in Formula Renault 2.0 at the beginning of their career in cars.»
Max Defourny can already look forward to 2016 with optimism, even though he knows that his season is not over yet. «I’ll go to Jerez in Spain to contest a round of the Italian Championship (ALPS) and the following week the last race of the Formula Renault Eurocup.
It will then be time to think about next season and the winter testing programme.»
