“P1 Engines wins in ProKart Challenge in Monterey Bay”
It was another winning weekend for P1 Engines in the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) ProKart Challenge program. Taking place on the temporary layout in Monterey Bay, California, P1 Engines powered drivers would be at the pointy end of the field throughout the event and eventually score victories in the IAME X30 Junior and IAME Mini Swift divisions.
Leading the way in X30 Jr. was Oliver Calvo, after his third place effort in qualifying. Flexing his muscles and showing the P1 Engines power for the rest of the day, Calvo claimed the top spot for the rest of the day winning two heat races and the main event. Keeping Calvo honest, P1 Engines powered Dante Yu turned the fourth quickest time in morning qualifying and improved throughout the day to cross the stripe in second. Tomas Mejia ran top-three all day and managed to hold station in the day’s final to make it a P1 Engines powered top-three. Not done there, Edward Portz Jr. over came his 15th place qualifying run to improve throughout his heats to finish fourth after the final checkered flag. Gary Lyles and Jarred Korth would also finish in the top-ten with eighth and tenth place results respectively making it six of the top-ten for P1 Engines.
In IAME Mini Swift, it was a ProKart Challenge debut win for Jace Denmark-Gessel. Showing consistency and running in the top-five throughout the day, the young gun utilized his P1 Engine power to score a big win after the main event results were final. Daniel Inzunza had his breakthrough race, as he was involved in an unavoidable crash in the first heat, sending him to the tail of the field for the start of heat two. From this point on, Daniel was unstoppable and drove to the front to take the lead in the main event eventually claimed the checkered flag on track. An unfortunate ten second penalty for pushing on the start took away the win from Inzunza who proved that he was the driver to beat. P1 Engines powered Oliver Reed also had a great run finishing tenth.
In IAME Micro Swift, Ethan Naciemento had his breakout race running fast time in the second heat and main event. Running top-three through the day, Naciemento was in a battle for the second step on the podium but neither driver would give an inch, causing them to make contact and both finish on the side line. Matias Coito over came a bad qualifying run to finish fourth while Logan Toke scored his first top-ten result with a solid eighth place result.
Colby Dubato, Nick Ramirez and Greg Osborn Jr. would do battle in X30 Senior and all would struggle throughout the weekend. At the end, both Dubato and Ramirez ran quicker times than the leader but could only muster seventh and eighth place results while Osborne would cross the stripe right behind them in ninth.
In the X30 Masters division, Russel Francis would run top five all day finishing the main event in fifth and Tim Meyer improved from his qualifying effort to finish sixth.
