Jerseyman Jack Butel has today (Wednesday 21 February) confirmed that he will return to the Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship for an all-out assault on the championship title.
The 21-year-old will once again contest the UK-based series after a prosperous inaugural season in the sports car racing series. Butel enjoyed a successful maiden year in the UK LMP3 Cup aboard his Speedworks Motorsport prepared Ligier JS P3 LMP3 – claiming five podiums, including a breakthrough win at the season finale at Donington on his way to third in the standings.
Jack continued his winning ways into 2018, claiming two outright podiums and two class wins in the heat of Dubai earlier in the season whilst taking part in the opening round of the 24 Hour Proto Series – a warm up for the exciting year ahead.
“2017 went really well for us,” enthused Butel. “We had a rough start as we set about finding our feet. Coming from single-seaters took me a bit of time but by the end of the first race meeting, I felt very comfortable and that progress continued throughout the season.”
After a solid start, Butel made giant strides in the five-litre machine to mix it at the front end of the competitive series. Jack will once again drive some of the most iconic circuits in Europe including, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington and an exciting overseas addition in Belgium – with the young-gun and his Speedworks team returning to the famous Spa Francorchamps.
“To claim wins at the end of 2017 and at the start 2018 I think really shows our intent for the new year. It’s great to be back in the UK LMP3 Cup as we learnt so much last year that we felt it would be important to attack the series again – this time with the title as our ambition and we are going to throw everything we can at it.”
With the knowledge obtained from a stellar first season in sports car racing, Butel is hungry for more as he sets his sights on further success in 2018.
“My consistency was good last season but I felt it took me a while to get onto the pace. After our trip to Dubai earlier in the year I feel I am sharper and able to get into the car and go quick from the off.
“I know I can do it, the team can do it. We all know how to win now and that’s psychologically important when going for a championship challenge. I would like to thank my sponsors and supporters for their continued support and I look forward to working with them throughout 2018 in the pursuit of more trophies.”
