Alex Job Racing’s Landy finishes fourth in second IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup race at Sebring
Sebastian Landy (Great Falls, Va.) had a successful first weekend with Alex Job Racing driving the No.49 Porsche 911 GT in the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama doubleheader at Sebring International Raceway.
This afternoon, Landy started seventh in the second Porsche GT3 Cup race. He got off to a good start and continued to put down consistent laps that put him in the top five about half way into the 45-minute race. From there, he put constant pressure on the cars in front of him as he was knocking on the door of his first GT3 Platinum cup podium finish of the season. Unfortunately, he simply ran out of time.
“Today’s race was obviously a little bit better [than yesterday’s],” Landy said. “From the start, the race was pretty clean – at least for me. However, I got nudged out of the way by one guy early on in the race and he got in front. I sort of lost my opportunity to catch the leaders because I got stuck behind him.
“We had a quick car. I’m really thankful to AJR for that. Over the long runs, I felt I was definitely quicker than the guys in front of me. There were just a couple of areas that we lacked a little speed to make a move. But again, we were opportunistic and stayed on the track. It was tricky [late in the race] because the two cars in front of me were teammates. They were trying to pass each other, but they were also trying to defend [against me] together. I looked for any opportunity I could hopefully force either one of them into making a mistake. And, that’s exactly what happened. I knew I was lacking a little bit of straight line speed to them. So, it was tricky to make a move. But, it was about them making a mistake. At least I could force them into doing that.”
Landy qualified sixth for Friday’s first race, which is the same place he finished.
“Qualifying was actually little tricky trying,” Landy said. “It was hard to find clean track. This is a new car for us. And, we’re new to the team. We’re figuring things out each session. Qualifying was the fastest we’d had gone all weekend. It was just really hard to find clean track to get the smoothest lap possible. But, I think from there, we learned some good things and took those into both races.
“In the first race, I fell back a little bit at the start. I wasn’t quite expecting the leaders to go as early as they did. But, from there, it was a matter of trying to make up lost ground and keep my head down. AJR gave me a great car that lasted the whole race. I was able to make up a little of what I had lost based on other people’s mistakes and me capitalizing on it a little bit.”
“Sebastian had a good finish,” Team Owner Alex Job said. “Together with engineer Jim Bell he had a strong weekend and just missed the podium by one spot. Sebastian is coming to better terms with this new car and doing better each time he’s in it. We’re learning the car a little more each time. He finished sixth yesterday and fourth today, which is good in terms of points. Now, we’ll look forward to going to Barber.
The IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama series next heads to Barber Motorsports Park April 21-23.
