TOYOTA GAZOO RACING ON TOP AT LE MANS

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing set another milestone in the Hypercar era during qualifying for the 89th Le Mans 24 Hours, the fourth round of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

ROVERA IS READY TO MAKE 24 OF LE MANS HOURS DEBUT

Alessio Rovera is making his debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Ferrari 488 GTE. Born in 1995, the Italian GT double champion (2019, 2020) will take part in the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship during the week after testing at the legendary 13.626 km Circuit de la Sarthe on last Sunday’s official test day.

This week, the 89th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place, and after a last-minute driver swap and abbreviated test day, the team behind the No. 17 IDEC SPORT / Era Motorsport Oreca rides into the famed event with both excitement and trepidation. Following a shoulder injury, Era Motorsport team owner and driver Kyle Tilley will sit out this year’s race and will be replaced by French racing driver Thomas Laurent.

Cetilar Racing is all set for season’s big event as it will take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the fifth time consecutively, the first fielding the AF Corse run #47 Ferrari 488 GTE shared by Roberto Lacorte, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Antonio Fuoco. Taking a podium finish at the Spa opener and the 8 Hours of Portimão victory, the trio faces the fourth out of six FIA WEC rounds leading the LMGTE Am class.

PORSCHE CONCLUDES LE MANS PREPARATIONS WITH BEST TIME IN BOTH GTE CLASSES

After the pre-test at the Circuit des 24 Heures, Porsche heads to the 24-hour race feeling optimistic. With a lap time of 3:52.901 minutes, the ca. 515 PS 911 RSR driven by Kévin Estre (France), Neel Jani (Switzerland) and Michael Christensen (Denmark) set the best time in the GTE-Pro class during this morning’s session. The No. 91 sister car shared by the works driver trio Gianmaria Bruni (Italy), Richard Lietz (Austria) and Fréderic Makowiecki (France) concluded the two sessions in second with 3:52.904 minutes – a time almost identical to their brand colleagues’. The two Porsche customer teams WeatherTech Racing and Hub Auto Racing wrapped up the day in third and sixth place out of the eight participants in this category. The WeatherTech car crewed by the Belgian works driver Laurens Vanthoor, Cooper MacNeil (USA) and Earl Bamber (New Zealand) finished the afternoon session as the fastest in the Pro category.

TWELVE PORSCHE 911 RSR TACKLE THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS

The Porsche works team has set a high benchmark for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fielding two Porsche 911 RSR, Porsche hopes to lay the foundation for yet another title win in France. So far in this season’s FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the factory squad has secured two class wins from three races. The legendary Circuit des 24 Heures hosts round four on 21/22 August. Porsche again relies on a three-driver crew in each of its cars at the Sarthe. A total of twelve 911 RSR will tackle the GTE-Pro and GTE-Am classes at the 89th edition of the world’s fastest endurance race. The event starts this coming Sunday (15 August) with the so-called pre-test on the 13.626-kilometre-long combination of the circuit and public roads. With 19 overall victories and 108 class wins to its credit, Porsche is by far the most successful manufacturer at the 24-hour race in France.

DTM COMEBACK OF DOUBLE CHAMPION NOT POSSIBLE IN THE 2021 SEASON

Gary Paffett will no longer compete for Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport in the 2021 DTM season. Travel restrictions and the Corona pandemic make a comeback for the two-time DTM champion impossible. Instead, AMG driver Maximilian Buhk, driving the #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3, which is equipped with the Space Drive digital steering system and has no mechanical connection at all between the steering unit and the steering gearbox, will finish the season. He had already deputized for Paffett in the first three races and several times finished in the top 10 of the strong DTM field.

FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS ANNOUNCES TWO-CAR EFFORT IN GT AMERICA

The SRO America season has reached its halfway point, and Flying Lizard Motorsports has put together a two-car effort to run the remainder of the 2021 GT America season. The team will see the return of the No. 460 Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by longtime Lizard Andy Wilzoch. For the second entry, Flying Lizard Motorsports has partnered with TKO Motorsports to enter a Bentley Continental GT3 to be driven by Memo Gidley.

Making its first-ever entry in the top-flight IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC), JR III Racing arrived to Road America well prepared—having tested at the track,  a driving roster comprised of podium-winning drivers and a full crew on hand to support the team debut.  Mid-Ohio podium finishers of Terry Olson and Mike Skeen paired up behind the wheel of the No. 30 Jr III Racing Ligier JS P320 as the Charlotte-based team made another progressive step with its WeatherTech debut this weekend.
