Belgian Audi Club Team WRT took a resounding victory in today’s Endurance Cup opener at Imola as GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS competition resumed in spectacular fashion.

The opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, held at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola ended with a Ferrari on the podium in the Pro-Am class and a heap of regrets.

Aston Martin Racing partner team Garage 59 made a flying start to their 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup (GTWC) campaign with victory in the Pro-Am class for Alexander West (SWE), works driver Jonny Adam (GB) and Aston Martin Lagonda high performance test driver Chris Goodwin (GB) at Imola.

Lucky Khera wins the opening race of the season, with Graham de Zille winning in the Coppa Shell.

Schouten and Piana took their #111 BMW M4 GT4 to a lights-to-flag victory at Imola, ultimately finishing almost nine seconds ahead of the #8 CMR Toyota GR Supra GT4. Allied-Racing secured their first 1-2 Pro-Am finish of the season, with Kasperlik and Buus beating teammates Møller-Madsen and Viebahn. Victory in the Am Cup went to the #89 AGS Events Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Nicolas Gomar and Gilles Vannelet.

The Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 no. 51 of AF Corse will start from second on the grid in the opening race of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. The crew of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Nicklas Nielsen closed the session just 144 thousandths of a second off pole despite a time that was compromised in Q1 due to the heavy traffic on the track. Their qualifying result is a bit surprising as the Balance of Performance doesn’t really favour the Maranello cars. However, the talent of the drivers reduced this handicap to a minimum. In the Pro-Am class, the 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Sky – Tempesta Racing claimed a fantastic pole with Edward Cheever, Chris Froggatt and Jonathan Hui.

The #66 Attempto Racing Audi will begin the GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS season from the front of the grid after securing pole for tomorrow’s three-hour contest at Imola.

RN Vision STS Racing finished first and third in the Silver Cup, with AGS Events claiming a second-place finish in their first race in the series. Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport won the Pro-Am class and with W&D Racing Team taking the Am Cup honours, all class victories went to BMW teams.

The Barbagallo round of the 2019 Australian GT Championship provided some memorable racing during the three-leg GT race around the 2.4-kilometre circuit, a mix of day and night races providing some epic moments, not the least of which was the incident that claimed leader Ryan How in the dying stages of Saturday night’s final race.

After a pause of more than four months, Team Parker Racing is set to open the GT World Challenge Europe season as it travels to Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy for round one of the series’ Endurance Cup with its Bentley Continental GT3 next weekend (July 25-26).

K-PAX Racing, which has made diligent steps toward new beginnings with its expanded effort into the GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Endurance Cup, will make its long-awaited 2020 season debut July 25-26 at Autodromo di Imola (Italy). The team’s firm step into Europe marks its official arrival into a new series under the SRO umbrella, despite a brief appearance during the its official test days in March, which was cut short by the increasing restrictions from COVID-19 seen worldwide.

The GT4 European Series will get underway at Imola this weekend after an extended break forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The series will make its first ever appearance on the fast, 4.9km Italian circuit near Bologna, which hosted the San Marino Grand Prix until 2006.
