The ninth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship run over ten hours is called “Petit Le Mans“. The Porsche GT Team has secured grid positions four and six in the GTLM category. Belgium’s Laurens Vanthoor lapped the 4.088-kilometre Road Atlanta circuit in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR in 1:15.657 minutes. His works driver colleague Nick Tandy from Great Britain set a lap time of 1:15.858 minutes in the No. 911 sister car.

Conditions for the first practice session of the ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring were wet and cold as the 100th race weekend in the Super Sports Car League got underway. Porsche driver Robert Renauer (35, GER, Precote Herberth Motorsport) coped best with the tricky conditions.

Philip Massoud will be joining B-Quik Absolute Racing for Thailand Super Series (“TSS”) 2020, which will finally get underway at the end of the month. The highly rated Australian driver will partner up with Henk Kiks in the No 26 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo.

Team Raton Racing returns to action. After changing its 2020 programs due to pandemic impact, the squad led by Roberto Tanca is set for the most important European GT event, fielding a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo car in the next edition of 24 Hours of Spa scheduled on 24th/25th October.

McLaren Professional Driver, Ollie Wilkinson will make his Total 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps debut on 22-25 October, where he, Rob Bell and Joe Osborne will give the McLaren 720S GT3 its maiden outing in the 72nd running of the twice around the clock endurance race.

The 71st edition of the Spa 24 Hours will take place for the first time in autumn. From 22 to 25 October, the three Audi Sport customer racing teams will compete in the world’s biggest GT3 race to clinch their fifth victory after 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2017, but the traditional Coupe du Roi brand title and valuable championship points in the GT World Challenge Europe as well as the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) are also up for grabs in Belgium.

The ADAC GT Masters passes another milestone next weekend (16th – 18th October) when the Red Bull Ring in Austria hosts the 100th event and the 200th race on Sunday. The ‘Super Sports Car League’ was inaugurated in 2007 and is now considered to be one of the world’s leading GT series. The ADAC recognised the potential of the GT3 class as soon as it was introduced 14 years ago, and the ADAC GT Masters is now the longest-running series in the world based on this successful concept. SPORT1 will be showing both races from the Red Bull Ring, with live coverage on Saturday and Sunday commencing at 13:00 CEST.

Aston Martin Vantage GT3 racer Ahmad Al Harthy will make a very welcome return to competitive action this weekend, 17th/18th October, at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium with an unexpected debut in the International GT Open.

In 2015, the Porsche GT Team triumphed in what was presumed to be unattainable, bettering a field of the world’s best prototype and GT machines to win one of the most challenging motorsport events on the planet. In a relentless deluge that ended the race early, the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR crossed the finish line first to carve its name into the history books as a “giant killer”. The 10-hour classic, which will be celebrating it 23rd running on October 17, will see the two-car GTLM class factory effort return to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta looking to redeem a season of unrequited effort. In the customer-focused GTD class, Porsche privateer Wright Motorsports comes to the Braselton, Georgia-area on the opposite side of the pendulum having secured three consecutive podium finishes in recent IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races. The recognized patriarch of modern sports car racing, Porsche has a record-setting 24 class victories in the Petit Le Mans, including the unprecedented 2015 overall victory and three class victories in the one-make GTC category. Porsche has participated in every Petit Le Mans held since 1998.

GRT Grasser Racing Team will be doubly motivated as they start the fifth ADAC GT Masters race weekend of 2020 later this week. Super Sports Car League Races 9 and 10 are set to take place practically outside the Lamborghini team’s front door in Knittelfeld very close to the Red Bull Ring in Styria. After being disappointed at the Sachsenring, the crews of the three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evos are all the more determined to clinch their first official win of the season in their home fixture.

Just over two months after it began at Misano, the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup came to a close at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Alessandro Balzan (Italy) will join Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), and Jeff Westphal (San Mateo, Calif.) for the Motul Petit Le Mans to run at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, October 15-17. Balzan is a two-time IMSA WeatherTech GTD driver champion (2016, 2017), both with Scuderia Corsa. Balzan last raced with MacNeil and Westphal at the Rolex 24 Hour At Daytona in January.

After a strong fifth-place finish at the Charlotte ROVAL last weekend, the No. 57 Heinricher Racing with Meyer Shank Racing team is ready to fight for a win at the 23rd annual Motul Petit Le Mans this Saturday.
