K-PAX RACING BALENCES MUlTI-CONTINENTAL OPERATION WITH TIGHT SCHEDULE ACROSS BORDERS

K-PAX Racing is faced with a challenging but rewarding task within the next week, preparing for an across the world excursion for two of the season’s most anticipated endurance races in the month of October. The team, which has maintained an American-based operation while firmly stepping into Europe – all within World Challenge – will first continue its inaugural European tour by getting a first look at the TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa circuit with the series’ test days, followed by a detour back stateside to help extend the championship hopes for three of its drivers in Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli (IGTC).

TWELVE DRIVERS AND A NEW TEAM FROM AUDI SPORT AT THE SPA 24 HOURS

Just two days after the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the course is set for the next long-distance classic from October 22 to 25: The three best Audi factory drivers from the DTM will contest the Spa 24 Hours together with nine drivers from Audi Sport customer racing in four different Audi R8 LMS. In addition to Audi Sport Team WRT and Audi Sport Team Saintéloc, the Attempto Racing squad will strengthen the brand’s line-up for the first time.

BMW TEAM RLL FINISHES THRIRD AND FOURTH AT MID-OHIO

BMW Team RLL increased their podium finishing streak to four 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races with a third-place finish by the No. 25 BMW M8 GTE of Connor De Phillippi and Bruno Spengler in this afternoon’s two-hour-and-forty-minute Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio. Teammates John Edwards and Jesse Krohn finished fourth in the No. 24 BMW M8 GTE. The result was sixth podium finish at BMW Team RLL’s home track and 83rd total for the team since 2009.

Mercedes-AMG fell short off of the high goals it had set itself for this year’s ADAC TOTAL 24h-Rennen. The season highlight at the Nürburgring was marked by extreme weather conditions that led to retirements for the favourites including the race-leading Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars and resulted into the race being suspended over nine hours. Once the racing had resumed, Patrick Assenheimer (GER), Dominik Baumann (AUT), Maro Engel and Dirk Müller (both GER) of the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT AutoArenA finished in eighth place, the best result for the GT3s from Affalterbach. The HRT team’s sister car with Nico Bastian (GER), Yelmer Buurman (NED), Hubert Haupt (GER) and Philip Ellis (SUI) behind the wheel finished in ninth place. In the SP8T category, Black Falcon Team Textar celebrated second place in class with its Mercedes-AMG GT4.

SECOND PLACE FOR AUDI SPORT CUSTOMER RACING AT THE NURBURGING

Fighting for its sixth overall victory in the turbulent 48th running of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Audi Sport customer racing had to admit defeat by just a few seconds. Audi Sport drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Christopher Haase and Markus Winkelhock in the Audi R8 LMS crossed the finish line in the most adverse conditions in the Eifel region as runners-up. They achieved this result as a squad of three after their team-mate Robin Frijns, who had originally been planned to race with them in Audi Sport Team Car Collection, was unable to compete due to an infection with the common cold.

BMW CLAIMS 20th OVERALL VICTORY AT THE NURBURGRING 24 HOURS

Anniversary win for BMW in the ‘Green Hell’: the ROWE Racing team won the Nürburgring 24 Hours (GER) to present the Bavarian manufacturer with its 20th overall victory at the endurance classic. 50 years after the inaugural Eifel marathon, the #99 BMW M6 GT3 crossed the finish line in first place after 85 laps of racing. Nick Catsburg (NED), Alexander Sims (GBR) and Nick Yelloly (GBR) alternated at the wheel in an eventful and wet race, which was interrupted for roughly nine hours in the night due to heavy rain. The trio fought back strongly on Sunday to earn BMW’s first overall victory since 2010. At the end of a nerve-racking climax, Catsburg crossed the finish line 15.452 seconds ahead of the second-placed Audi. BMW Team Schnitzer completed the podium in third place, with drivers Augusto Farfus (BRA), Jens Klingmann (GER), Martin Tomczyk (GER) and Sheldon van der Linde (RSA).
