NISSAN SCORES FIRST OVERALL SEBRING WIN SINCE 1994

There was only one driver lineup entered in this year’s 66th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts made up entirely of past overall race winners. It was only fitting, then, that lineup – comprised of Pipo Derani, Nicolas Lapierre and Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 22 Tequila Patrón ESM Nissan DPi – combined Saturday to give Nissan its first win in the endurance classic in almost 25 years.

The second race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season (second round of the North American Endurance Cup) extended a 66-year tradition as Sebring International Raceway played host for the annual 12 Hours of Sebring. Perfect conditions saw the race run at a frantic pace in the opening stages before being slowed by a series of caution periods in the second half of the event. As darkness fell, the final two hours of the race featured a sprint to the finish with Ferrari once again well figuring in the final results.

WEATHERTECH RACING FINISHES SECOND IN GTD AT SEBRING

The Porsche 911 RSR has scored its first win of the IMSA SportsCar Championship season at the Sebring International Raceway in Florida. At the 12 Hours of Sebring, the oldest and toughest sports car race in the USA, Patrick Pilet (France), Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Frédéric Makowiecki (France) won the GTLM class with the 510 hp race car from Weissach after a heart-stopping finale on Saturday.

The Brazilian from the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler squad produced an impressive performance around the fastest track of the season. In the morning’s free practice di Grassi was faster than the rest of the field by more the four-tenths of a second at the wheel of his Audi e-tron FE04. The Audi driver also set the fastest lap in the ‘Super Pole’. However, it was not di Grassi who started the race from pole position, but in fact the initially fifth placed Jean-Eric Vergne in the Techeetah.
