First practice of the Micra Cup 2016 season

BENIK KART DRIVERS DOMINATE MICRO MAX CLASS AT OPENING ROUND OF US OPEN

Three different drivers on the same brand of chassis were the class of the Rotax Micro MAX field at the opening round of the MAXSpeed Entertainment promoted US Open this past weekend at the NOLA Motorsports Park just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. Diego LaRoque, James Egozi and Carson Morgan all took a turn at the front of the talented field of drivers and at the end of the week, would be the only three to have their names shine in Micro MAX.

Maiden wins for Randle and Collard as Bortoleto walks away unscathed from airborne crash

It was a day of fast starts, first-time winners and one very big crash at Rockingham on Sunday (1 May), as Douglas Motorsport’s Thomas Randle and Carlin’s Ricky Collard made up multiple positions into the first corner to take race two and three victory respectively. In the opening race of the day, Double R Racing’s Enzo Bortoleto went end-over-end at Chapman Curve but got out of his car unharmed, a great testament to the strength of the Tatuus chassis.

Tiago Monteiro on the podium after two spectacular races in Hungary

Weather conditions were a main factor in this weekend's round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, which took place on the Hungaroring Circuit in Hungary with heavy rain complicating the lives of drivers and their teams. Tiago Monteiro finished 12th in the first race, but did even better than limiting the damage in the main race by crossing the line in third place after a complex and demanding race.

McLAREN 650S GT3 TAKES WINS IN THREE COUNTRIES

McLaren GT Factory Drivers Rob Bell, Côme Ledogar, Shane van Gisbergen and Alvaro Parente claimed victories in Europe and North America as the 650S GT3 enjoyed a strong weekend. The race-focused version of Super Series model secured a dramatic win at the opening round of the 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup in Monza, Italy, a double podium in the Pirelli World Challenge at Barber Motorsports Park in the USA and pole position and a win at the first weekend of the International GT Open championship in Estoril, Portugal.

Grist went on to pick up his first podium the following day in the 40-minute race, claiming third in Round 3 and delivering Juncos Racing their first podium finish of the season. Owen picked up a Top-5 in the #23 AMR car, taking fifth. Argentinean Dapero earned his best finish since joining the Mazda Road to Indy ladder series, finishing seventh in the #31 Federal Seguros car. Jake Parsons finished 13 laps down after contact midway through the race forced him to end his day early.

Juncos Racing showed great pace in the first practice session on the 2.3 mile, 17-Turn road course with Kyle Kaiser (Santa Clara, California) finishing second and Zach Claman De Melo (Montreal, Canada) fifth. The next day Claman De Melo qualified second for Round 4, however was unfortunately disqualified in the technical inspection and moved to the back of the 16 car field.

CANADA’S PARKER THOMPSON DOMINATES AT BARBER

Second-year driver Parker Thompson blitzed the field today in the first of two races which will comprise the Cooper Tires USF2000 Grand Prix of Alabama this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. Thompson, 18, from Red Deer, Alb., Canada, led throughout the 22-lap race en route to a long overdue maiden victory in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda, the first level on the Mazda Road to Indy open-wheel development ladder.
