Aston Martin Racing’s new Vantage GTE recorded its first top-five finish and made a significant step forward in pace and development during the 6 Hours of Silverstone this weekend.
As they say in the world of distance running, “your head can go where your legs can’t”. The 6 Hours of Silverstone, third round of the Super Season of the 2018-19 World Endurance Championship boiled down to this for Ferrari no. 51 of AF Corse. After a stark performance gap in qualifying mainly due to the BoP that still separates the 488 GTE Evos from the GTE-Pro class leaders, the race saw an unexpected win thanks to the Italian team’s magnificent strategy and the skills of world champions Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado. It was the first victory for the car equipped with the Evo kit. However, the race only turned out well for car no. 51, with no. 71 hampered by an accident and the GTE-Am class cars quite off the pace for the entire race.
BMW Team MTEK has finished in sixth place in the GTE Pro class in the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the Six Hours of Silverstone (GBR), with its #81 BMW M8 GTE piloted by Martin Tomczyk (GER) and Nicky Catsburg (NED).
Zandvoort: Robert Renauer (33, GER) and Mathieu Jaminet (23, FRA, both Precote Herberth Motorsport) have firmly announced their intentions in the title chase with a lights-to-flag victory in Sunday’s race at Zandvoort in the Netherlands. It was their first win of the 2018 ADAC GT Masters campaign. Second place went to the Mercedes-AMG pairing of Patrick Assenheimer (26, GER) and Raffaele Marciello (23, ITA, both AutoArenA Motorsport) ahead of Adrien de Leener (28, BEL) and Klaus Bachler (27, AUT, both KÜS Team75 Bernhard) in another Porsche 911 GT3 R. “That was a perfect day,” said a jubilant victor Jaminet. “It’s great to have at last got this first win of the season for us and for Porsche.”
Sixth position in the European Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Silverstone (17-18 August) has bolstered RLR MSport’s position at the head of the LMP3 Teams’ and Drivers’ standings.
On a hot and rapidly changing afternoon in Virginia that featured everything from heavy rain to sunshine, TeamTGM ignored the variables and stayed focused on the goal on Saturday’s Biscuitville Grand Prix. Outstanding team execution earned the group a second IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge victory of the season.
At the Virginia International Raceway, the Porsche GT Team has secured positions two and eight in the GTLM class. In the qualifying for the IMSA SportsCar Championship, the Porsche 911 RSR with the starting number 911 was driven by Patrick Pilet. On a track wet with rain, the Frenchman achieved his fastest time on the last lap. With 1:56.170 minutes, he secured position two in the close session. On Sunday, he joins forces with Nick Tandy (Great Britain) to tackle the race over two hours and 40 minutes. Earl Bamber planted the car with the starting number 912 on P8 with a time of 1:57.874 minutes. The New Zealander will drive the first stint at round nine of the championship before handing the car to his teammate Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium).
After three practice sessions under very hot and humid conditions, a rain shower just before the GTLM class qualifying session this afternoon soaked the Virginia International Raceway circuit and slowed the pace of the field. Electing to use Michelin wet tires on both cars, BMW Team RLL qualified in third and fifth starting positions for tomorrow’s Michelin GT Challenge at VIR.
The #66 Ford GT of Stefan Mücke (GER) and Olivier Pla (FRA) will start the ‘6 Hours of Silverstone’ from pole position after a dominant showing in today’s Qualifying session. Mücke and Pla are currently in second position in the fight for the world title so every point counts at this stage of the season.
Following a wet qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, Paul Miller Racing will start fifth in the Michelin GT Challenge and VIRginia International Raceway on Sunday, August 19. Madison Snow qualified the GTD points leading No. 48 Huracán GT3, completing six laps before weather conditions changed on the 3.27 mile road course.

The winners of Saturday’s ADAC GT Masters race at Zandvoort were Ezequiel Perez Companc (24, RA) and Marco Mapelli (31, ITA, both GRT Grasser Racing Team). The Lamborghini drivers prevailed by the relatively narrow margin of 0.703 seconds over Sheldon van der Linde (19, ZA) and Kelvin van der Linde (22, ZA, both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) in an Audi R8 LMS and their third-placed Montaplast team-mates Jake Dennis (24, GB) and Christopher Mies (29, GER). “I am very happy about this victory,” said pole-sitter and race winner Perez Companc. “The race was very tough, as our pursuers put us under constant pressure. The fans saw a lot of wheel-to-wheel action today.”
Aston Martin Racing delivered its most competitive showing of the season with the new Vantage GTE by qualifying an impressive second and third fastest in the GTE Pro class for the 6 Hours of Silverstone.
The five Ferraris competing in the 6 Hours of Silverstone, the third round of the 2018/2019 Super Season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), didn’t have an easy qualifying. In the GTE-Pro class, the 488 GTEs of reigning world champion team AF Corse will start from rows three and five with cars no. 71 and no. 51 respectively. In the GTE-Am class the Prancing Horse cars took third and fourth row, with the 488 GTE no. 54 of Spirit of Race best-placed.
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing made a constructive start to the 6 Hours of Silverstone event when practice began in Great Britain for the third round of the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship season.
