Pfaff Motorsports moved the No. 9 “Plaid Porsche” to the top of the GTD class championship point standings following a hard-fought second-place finish at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Saturday, September 25. PORSCHE CUSTOMER TEAMS HEAD TO LONG BEACH

North America’s largest Porsche market will increase by five this weekend as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship travels to Southern California with a quintet of Porsche customer programs on the entry list. The five Porsche race cars entered in the Grand Prix of Long Beach matches the largest number of 911-based race cars to compete this season in the GTLM and GTD classes of the North American race series. The 100-minute race is tabbed for September 25 on the temporary street course through the Long Beach, California community. It marks the return of the street race after the event was put on a one-year hiatus in 2020.

Porsche Privateers Seek Win at America’s National Park of Speed

August on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule brings only one event, but it is at a destination venue: Road America. Porsche customer teams come to the Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin-track seeking the German sports car manufacturer’s 14th class victory on the 4.048-mile road course. PORSCHE GT TEAM STRIVES FOR OUTRIGHT VICTORY IN VIRGINIA

The Porsche GT Team fields two 911 RSR at round nine of the IMSA SportsCar Championship season on the Virginia International Raceway on 19 August. The 510-hp racer from Weissach, which has already notched up victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Mid-Ohio race so far this season, tackles the infamously cutthroat GTLM class against strong opposition from BMW, Chevrolet and Ford. In the GTD class, Porsche’s customer team Wright Motorsports campaigns the 911 GT3 R, which recently celebrated its first win this year in the USA at Road America. The prototypes will be absent at the venerable 5.263-kilometre racetrack close to Alton in the US state of Virginia for the second time this season. This means that overall victory will go to a GT car.

PODIUM FOR PORSCHE AT LIME ROCK PARK

Porsche clinched a podium spot at round seven of the IMSA SportsCar Championship in Lakeville. The Mid-Ohio winners Laurens Vanthoor from Belgium and New Zealander Earl Bamber finished third in the GTLM class with the Porsche 911 RSR. Driving the sister car, Patrick Pilet from France and Britain’s Nick Tandy, the winners of this year’s Sebring 12-hour race, took the flag in fifth place after two hours and 40 minutes. Vanthoor and Bamber had been running in second place over a long stretch and managed to gradually close the gap to the leader. However, two mistakes cost the 510-hp sports car with the starting number 912 valuable time and one position. In the overall classification, Porsche still ranks third in the manufacturer’s category.
