ALESSANDRO ZANARDI: FROM SPRINT TO MARATHON, FROM THE BMW M4 DTM TO THE BMW M8 GTE

After his successful DTM guest appearance at Misano (ITA), the next highlight will soon be upon Alessandro Zanardi (ITA). In just over two weeks (26th/27th January), the BMW works driver will contest the 24-hours of Daytona (USA) in the BMW Team RLL BMW M8 GTE. For Zanardi this means the transition between totally different challenges: from sprint to endurance races, from the BMW M4 DTM to the BMW M8 GTE and from racing alone to a shared start with team-mates. Nevertheless, the DTM guest appearance in the BMW M4 DTM was the perfect test run for the “Road to Daytona”.

BMW TEAM RLL READY FOR VIR AFTER NEAR MISS AT ROAD AMERICA

While the second half of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship can be exhausting with a race seemingly every other weekend, BMW Team RLL is looking forward to getting back to it at the Aug. 19 Michelin GT Challenge at VIR following a near miss of the podium’s top spot at Road America. Leading for almost the entire last hour of the race, the No. 25 M8 GTE of Connor De Phillippi was stalled by a fuel system issue within minutes of the checkered flag.

FOUR SERIES – FOUR PIT STOPS: PACE AND PERFECTION IN ALL ASPECTS

Perfect pit stops are important for success in every race series. While it will be primarily about the speed of changing tyres at next weekend’s DTM races in Brands Hatch (GBR), in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), it’s the right timing and coordination of the different procedures that is crucial. In addition to changing the tyres, the car is refuelled and a new driver enters the cockpit. We provide an overview of the pit stops in the various race series in which BMW M Motorsport is involved and compare the stops at the upcoming DTM races with those in the FIA WEC, the IMSA series and at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours.

BMW TEAM RLL LOOKING FORWARD TO ROAD AMERICA

The annual trip to Road America for the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Showcase is always a highlight for BMW Team RLL. Over the past eight seasons the team has scored an additional two poles and seven podium finishes at the historic motor circuit, including two more wins in 2010 and 2012.
