AUSTRALIAN GT CHAMPION LOOKS TO GT3 RETURN

After a watershed year that netted his team the Bathurst 12 Hour, the Australian GT Championship title and the Australian Endurance Championship crown – all in GT4 – M-Motorsport team-boss Justin McMillan has revealed that he is looking for a return to GT3 in season 2020, but that he would still be campaigning two GT4 cars in this year’s championship.

BATHURST 12 HOUR SIGNALS START OF 2020 AUSTRALIAN GT SEASON

The annual Bathurst 12 Hour at Mount Panorama signals the start of what is an extensive season of events for Australian GT in 2020. Taking in the 12 Hour journey as part of a three-round Australian Endurance Championship that includes arguably Australia’s best and most recognised circuits, the event signals the start of a new direction for the category that is focussed on providing value for money GT racing on Australia’s best circuits.

AUSTRALIAN GT VICTORY TO VAN GISBERGEN AND TALBOT AT THE BEND

Shane van Gisbergen has added to his tally of Australian GT endurance championship victories with his maiden win in a Lamborghini Huracan alongside fellow former endurance race winner Liam Talbot, the pair emerging from the three-hour race around The Bend Motorsport Park with a win over points leaders Geoff Emery and Garth Tander, and former endurance champions Peter Hackett and Dom Storey.

Reigning Australian GT Champion Geoff Emery and co-driver Garth Tander have claimed top honours in the opening round of the CAMS Australian Endurance Championship under sunny skies at Phillip Island, the Audi duo withstanding all challenges to give the German marque it’s third consecutive win in the event, in the process crossing the line with the biggest winning margin since GT enduros returned to the Island in 2014.

Reigning Intercontinental GT Challenge Bronze Drivers’ Champion Kenny Habul continued his winning streak at the Australian Grand Prix after a 20-year hiatus since his first laps of the circuit in an open-wheeler, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver storming from pole position to lead home Scott Taylor Motorsport team-mate Max Twigg and race three winner Peter Hackett to claim a second AMG 1-2-3 for the event.

HACKETT TAKES MAIDEN AUSTRALIAN GT VICTORY

Peter Hackett claimed his maiden Australian GT victory at the Australian Grand Prix during race three of the 2019 season-opener, leading home a Mercedes-AMG 1-2-3 having taken title rival Max Twigg late in the race as they came up to lap the ailing Dale Paterson, the pair crossing the line nose to tail with race two winner Kenny Habul third after an outstanding drive from the rear of the field.
