The organisers of the British LMP3 Cup Championship, Bute Motorsport, have confirmed that the Ligier JS P4 is now eligible to race in their championship from 2018.

The Ligier JS P4 is the brand new entry-level sports prototype in the Ligier family. It has been designed for new drivers and teams who wish to discover what driving and running a sports prototype is like.

The Ligier JS P4 was first unveiled at the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans, by Onroak Automotive President, Jacques Nicolet. It was then on display for the first time in the UK at the Autosport International Show – Europe’s largest motorsport show – as part of the Ligier UK stand. The Ligier JS P4 was also on display this week at the Festival Automobile International in Paris.

The British LMP3 Cup Championship is the first ACO-supported prototype series to be launched in the UK and provides the perfect platform for customers wanting to get into prototype racing with the Ligier JS P4, eventually progressing to racing a Ligier JS P3. From April 2018, the Ligier JS P4 can race alongside the Ligier JS P3s at five of the UK’s best circuits, with a special round at the world-renowned Spa Francorchamps in Belgium.

The first round of the LMP3 Cup Championship will be held at Donington Park on 21-22 April.

Richard Dean:
“It makes perfect sense to have an additional ‘P4’ style class alongside the LMP3 cars, in the same way GT racing around the world has GT3 and GT4. The Ligier P4 cars, share the same carbon fibre monocoque and safety standards as the Ligier LMP3 cars, so they complement each other well and serve as both a feeder series and training ground. We have had a great reception at Autosport International when we launched the P4 car and all that was really missing was a UK series where you can regularly race these cars. Congratulations to BUTE Motorsport and the ACO in taking the initiative.”

Chris Haynes, Managing Director, Bute Motorsport:
“I am delighted to confirm that having worked closely with the ACO and MSVR we have reached an agreement to run this class. This move will further cement the status of the LMP3 Cup as the go-to Championship for those who aspire to race at Le Mans, whilst broadening its appeal to more teams and drivers alike.”
