Eager to race again after the long months of winter, Dorian Boccolacci’s season restarted at the Motorland Aragon circuit with a lot of positives. As well as 2nd place in Race 2 of the first round of the 2016 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, the raw performance and synergy with the Tech 1 Racing team are very encouraging signs for a season that has just begun.

«Racing in these conditions did me the world of good,» said Dorian. «Of course it’s important to be able to fight in the leading group from the first race. We will have to think about the speed soon to fight for victory. What matters as much to me is the excellent collaboration that has immediately been established with the team. The Motorland meeting allowed us to find the points which we need to improve. This is primarily by targeting a better result in Qualifying by improving the management of the tyres at peak performance, both for me and the team. Tech 1 Racing’s operating mode makes me completely confident and encourages me to challenge myself. I am delighted with this first race and I cannot wait to take the wheel in a few days at Monza for the beginning of the NEC before the big meeting at Monaco in late May.»

After his performance in the top three during pre-season testing, Dorian confirmed this at the opening of the first meeting of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup at the Spanish Motorland Aragon circuit at Alcaniz, setting the 3rd fastest time in Qualifying. From there he held his rank in 3rd place in Race 1 at Saturday lunchtime until a gearbox control problem dropped him down to 11th on the finish line. He took his revenge in Race 2 by quickly overtaking a favourite, Max Defourny, and ended up on the second step of the podium behind Lando Norris, with the second fastest time.

As he posted the 2nd fastest lap of his group during the qualifying session on Sunday morning, Dorian starting 4th on the starting grid for Race 3. «The drivers and teams know the circuit very well after all of the tests here. It is very difficult to see a difference especially as overtaking is not always easy. I attempted an attack on the 3rd, Harrison Scott, but he tightened its line and I could not make a move, which lost me some time. This is why it is essential to get a very good position in Qualifying. I finished 4th, with the second fastest lap, and I am ranked 4th in the championship. Without the technical problem in Race 1, I could have been 3rd. So we can say that the season has started well and my objective remains more relevant than ever: to win!»
