Formula 4 South East Asia – fueled by Petron – has just confirmed 13-15 April as the date for the final event in the 2017-18 Championship, supporting the Malaysia Championship Series (MCS), at the Sepang International Circuit.

The championship kicked off the season at the Finale of the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in September 2017, followed by a visit to the Clark International Speedway in the Philippines. The third event – originally planned for 24-26 November 2017 in Sentul, Indonesia – unfortunately had to be rescheduled at the eleventh hour.  This final event at Sepang replaces the Sentul round.

“Sentul is very important to us, as Indonesia is a strong driver market and we won our first championship there in 1996 with Narain Karthikeyan who went on to race in Formula 1. We had a great time there last year with home-grown hero Presley Martono winning the FIA Formula 4 SEA Event Champion Trophy and going on to win the first FIA Formula 4 SEA Driver Championship,” said Formula 4 SEA Promoter, Peter Thompson.

In January 2018 F4 SEA raced at Buriram Thailand on Children’s Day, following which the cars and team returned home to Malaysia, where Event 4 was held a week ago supporting Asian Le Mans. The South East Asian franchise of the global FIA F4 championship will crown the F4 SEA 2017-18 Champion at the final event on15 April.  In the meantime, the team is busy testing newcomers for the 2018 season, at Sepang.

Daniel Cao of China is currently leading the points tally going into the final event, with two Event Champion titles to his name and two runner-up positions. But Ugo De Wilde of Belgium and Malaysia’s Mitchell Cheah are not far behind with one Event Champion win each.

The final event will also determine the FIA Formula 4 SEA Rookie Champion. Kane Shepherd, who has been best rookie at each event so far, looks to be in a strong position to win.

The fifth and final battle will not only display the amazing talents of the FIA-certified championship contenders but will also give these aspiring professional racers an opportunity to earn FIA Super License Points, allowing them to graduate to the highest echelons of motorsport such as F1, LMP1 and GT1.

The annual MERITUS Awards Gala (MAG) will follow the final event, at a date to be announced.  The MAGs are designed to promote and profile the FIA road to professional careers in Asia, to celebrate and reward the outstanding achievements of our drivers, engineers and all those who have made the season an outstanding success. Please be sure to follow F4 SEA on social media to keep up to date and we hope to see you at Event 5 in Sepang in April.
